Drumstick Lime sambar

  • Drumsticks
    - 2
  • Red gram dal
    - 250gm
  • Lemon
    - 2
  • Green chilles
    - 3
  • Asafoetida
    - 1 small piece
  • Turmeric powder
    - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fenugreek seeds
    - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds
    - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves
    - few
  • Coriander leaves
    - 1/2 bunch
  • Salt
    - to taste


  1. Wash pick and boil the red gram dal in pressure cooker and keep aside.
  2. Cut drumsticks into pieces.
  3. Slice green chillies lengthwise.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan,add asafoetida,mustard seeds,fenugreek seeds.
  5. Add greenchillies and fry.
  6. Add the chopped drumsticks and handfull of curry leaves and fry.
  7. Add two cups of water.let the vegetables be tender and soft.
  8. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
  9. Then add the boiled red gram dal.
  10. Garnish with green coriander leaves.
  11. Just before serving,squeez the juice of lime.
  12. Serve hot with rice and chappattis.
